Thought Of The Day, “Pray And Listen”, Men’s Daily Devotion

Thought of the day:

Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.” And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.” Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?” And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” Reference 2 Kings 6:8-12 NKJV

Elisha was able to warn the king, because he listened for God. He didn’t just rush off and do anything, he spent time in prayer and listening for God.

When I read this passage, again, with my wife, this morning, it caused me to ponder. Do we spend enough time listening for God? Do we wait for Him to speak? Do we just throw things out to Him and expect Him to Work through is without getting a Lead from Him?

We often react out of our flesh without a Lead from Him. I am still a fan of those who spent hours in prayer like Spurgeon, Mueller, and others. They didn’t just do ministry, they wen in prayer and listened for God. This is what helped their ministry to be effective.

Let’s be like these men and spend time in prayer. In fact, let’s try to spend more time in prayer before we act.

Quick note: Men’s Conference this Saturday. Would love to see you come. You can get info and register at www.crossfellowship.com. If you want to come, or know of someone who would, and need help with cost of registration, let me know. Men need to be at least 16 years old to attend

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it. We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already.
If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know. Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
