Hymns for Him

I used to enjoy taking the names of TV shows or country songs and making up a story. I tried it with a bunch of old hymns and this is what I came up with. See how many you recognize. I used forty-two songs to tell my story… and it is true.  Hope it inspires.

I love to tell the story of God’s unconditional love and how Jesus saves…and how He saved me. One day, at Calvary Baptist Church in Friona Texas, heaven came down and glory filled my soul. That best describes how I felt that day His amazing grace was revealed to my lost and aching soul. Oh, how I love Jesus and the blessed assurance that His love lifted me from the fires of hell and set my feet on higher ground!
Each year in Friona, the entire school participated in a Christmas program. So I knew the story of Christmas, but I knew little about God or how Jesus loves me and you. I loved the story of how a child was born. Tucked away in a manger, a baby boy brought joy to the world one silent night. O, little town of Bethlehem, how honored you must have felt to host such a blessed event!
Praying God would accept me just as I am and hoping to understand it better by and by, I made my way down the aisle and told the Pastor, “I want to be Christian.”
In the months and years to come, I learned about the power in the blood of Christ and why Jesus paid it all on the old rugged cross. What a friend we have in Jesus and what a relief to know that whatever happens, we can take it to the Lord in prayer and receive victory in Jesus. He arose to give us that victory and He lives in the hearts of those of us who serve him.
I say, “Onward Christian soldiers!” Are you washed in the blood of the lamb? Then let’s show our loyalty to Christ, stand up and testify. I know whom I have believed and know that Jesus is tenderly calling all those who have ears to hear and hearts to understand. Let’s go tell it on the mountain and shout it in the valley, “How great Thou art!”
“Take up thy cross and follow me,” Jesus tells us in His Word. Take time to be holy and spend time in His presence. Praise Him, praise Him and let Him know: I need Thee every hour. Let’s get to the work ahead of us, and rescue the perishing. Showers of blessing will fall on our land and peace like a river will fill the souls of those who answer His call. Let’s trust and obey and as He guides us with His eye we’ll know: When the roll is called up yonder, we’ll be there!

Betty Fritz
My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
