The Gift of God’s Word

Years ago, as a student of the Famous Writer’s School, one of my teachers sent me a copy of a speech. I don’t recall who said it, but the speech went something like: Get to know your God, whoever you perceive him to be… At the time, I appreciated this advice because only a few years before this, I had accepted the one true God, and knew exactly who I perceived Him to be: My Lord and Savior. In walking with Him over the last 53 years my perception has grown, along with my faith, and I have discovered that He is much more than I knew back then.
Upon graduation, students today hear many speeches. The keynote speakers are often reluctant to even metion God, as our current culture forbids we appear ‘religious’. What a sad reality this is for our young people. How can we send them out into the world without a knowledge of Jesus and the protection of His love to guide them?
My prayer for our young people is that God would give them wisdom and discernment as they begin the last lap on their journey to adulthood. Someone asked me recently if I thought a Bible would make a good graduation gift. I told her I thought it would be the perfect gift for any young person. What better way to plant a seed of faith than to put His Word into the hands of our youth? The future belongs to them, but without His guidance, they are doomed.
When starting a new project, the instructions are often tossed aside; then, when we are faced with a mess and have no idea how to fix it… we go searching for those instructions. When our life is a mess, no better instruction is available than the holy words breathed by our creator. He alone has all the answers. We get to know Him only by trusting, trying and proving that He is who He says He is: Our Savior, our help in times of trouble, our hope in times of despair. I hope every graduate goes searching for instructions and finds the only God and true friend, Jesus Christ.
The gift of God’s Word contains a loin cloth of truth, a breastplate of righteousness, and the gospel of peace. Through it one can receive a shield of faith, a helmet of salvation and a sword of the Spirit…all the necessary equipment needed for the journey we call ‘life.’ What better gift for any person, young or old?
Before Jesus accended into heaven, he gave His disciples, which includes all believers, what is now called ‘The great Commission.’ Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. We can help to fill this request by seeing that God’s Word is placed into as many hands as possible…and not just in other countries, but here at home where it is also sorely needed. We are to raise up our children in the knowledge of God. Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen

Betty Fritz
My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
