At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Revelation 19:10 (NIV, 1984)

Many believers feel a little reluctant to wade into the mysterious waters of Bible prophecy. But today’s Scripture reminds us that we all have a part to play as the time of our Lord’s return grows near. A mighty angel looks John right in the eyes and says, “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The New Living Translation reads, “The essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”

There aren’t many Old Testament prophets around these days, but their legacies live on. According to that radiant angel in Revelation,we have that same prophetic spirit when we speak about Jesus to others. Whoever shares Jesus with a neighbor or friend is a prophet. The history of our planet is winding to a close, and it is time for the Lord’s people to declare Him! The Spirit of God will be working as you lift up the name of Jesus.

Lord, thank You for Your angel’s clear, powerful words. You have given us the high privilege of identifying with the highest, best, brightest, loveliest Name in all the universe. Let me have that great joy today, Lord. Let me have the privilege of sharing some simple word, thought, or observation that brings Your name into the conversation. I want to be Your prophet today!
