Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.

Psalm 105:4-5

You’re leafing through a desk drawer and come across a photo from years gone by. Maybe it shows a camping trip with your family, a special anniversary dinner with your “one-and-only,” a couple little ones with tousled hair and mischievous grins, or the smile of a well-loved face no longer on earth. Gratitude wells up in your heart, just as it should.

Gratitude looks back on the many things God has done in your life and recalls how good and kind He has been to you, even through trials, challenges, and disappointments. It’s why Psalm 105 tells us again and again to remember the wonders He has done. Through remembering, you gain a grateful heart. And then gratitude goes to work informing your faith, reminding you that you have every reason to trust God for the future. Gratitude looks back on the past to thank God—and then strengthens your faith to face the coming days with confidence.

Lord God, there have been so many wonders, kindnesses, and miracles. You have blessed me with such amazing, wonderful people throughout my life. Family and friends. Coworkers, helpers, and encouragers. You’ve given me the high privilege of declaring the love of Jesus in dark places. My heart overflows today. I am truly grateful.
