Laborers Are Few

We hear everyday how full of hate our country is and how we no longer care for each other. I am so glad this is not true. Not every one is evil and out to do harm. Most people are honest, hard working, God fearing people who really do care if someone is lost or hurting in some way. The news and social medias tell a different story and make it sound like our country is going to hell in a hand basket as Congress bickers over party lines and political issues…all the time failing to find any solutions to the real problems we face.

Circumstances once again have led us to a need to find a solution to the problem of mass murders. Will stricter gun laws and better mental health awareness really solve the problem? Or is the problem just one of many that seem too big to tackle? The questions are the same after every incident where innocent lives are lost and guns are involved. To deny people the right to own combat weapons seems sensible to many while others view it as one step closer to confiscating all guns. So we do nothing.

Remember when God led His people to the promised land? They refused to go in because of the size of the people they would have to fight in order to possess the land. They chose to ignore the fact that God had promised to go before them and prepare the way…so He led them through the wilderness for forty years. It was actually their children that finally got to enter the land. Are many of the problems we face today, such as gun control, going to be passed down for our children and grandchildren to deal with because we are afraid of the battle we’ll face?

As long as two parties of politicians are holding head butting sessions and neither side is willing to listen to the other, the solution is lost and the people are helpless. What can we, the people, do to solve the problem ourselves? We can pray for Divine intervention and a change of heart for those in need of His direction. We can find the lost and hurting as we go about our lives and tell them about Jesus.

Left to their own devices and hateful words, the government will not fix the problems we the people face so we must not look to them, but to God. He tells us in Romans 12:21 to overcome evil with good. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

When Jesus began His ministry, the government was in a mess much like we have today. Between the Roman law makers and religious leaders there was always conflict and indecision. Then Jesus came offering hope and a better way of life, free from the law and relying on God. The people were receptive and followed Him willingly where ever He went.
After days of teaching, healing and going about His Father’s business, Jesus looked upon the multitudes of people in need of His help and He felt compassion on them, seeing that they were like sheep without a shepherd. In Matthew 9:37 He said to His disciples: “The harvest surely is plenteous, but the laborers are few. 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.”

Prayer and dedication to service for Christ is the course we must take in order to find solutions to problems our world faces today. More laws and better resources for the mentally ill will not change the hearts set on destruction. Only the love and grace of Jesus can heal the hurt and bring salvation. People are beginning to realize that the government will not save us… and they are wandering like lost sheep. We have a shepherd. His name is Jesus… and the hearts are ready…so let’s do our part and pray for others to step up and do theirs as well. The harvest is ready, but the laborers are few…let’s see if we can change that!

Betty Fritz
My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
