Hope is the birthright of a Christian. We should just trust God to take care of us and shouldn’t be preoccupied with the trials we face, but unfortunately things happen in our daily living that cause us to doubt.
Hope is only a portion of our faith. It’s one of the three virtues mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13, the other two being faith and love.
Hope is a great virtue to have, especially when you can trust that what you are hoping for will actually come to pass. Sometimes though, we hope for things that are simply not in God’s plan for us.
I’ve heard some people place their hope in winning the lottery or hitting the jackpot. I’ve done that myself. We know that this type of hope is extremely slim to none, leaving us empty.
Hope is something everyone should have, especially those going through a difficult time. Hope can make all the difference between hanging in there and giving up. It can mean so much when you face a grim diagnosis. It Can mean so much when your marriage is ending. Hope can mean so much when you’ve lost a job. Or maybe facing financial hardship.
Hebrews 6:19 tells us that Jesus is the anchor of our hope and that our hope is secure through him. At Calvary Jesus secured this hope for us and for our future.
There are times we might use hope flippantly, maybe we’re saying; I hope I get a good parking spot, I hope I get to go to the movies this evening, I hope I passed my test.
But hope means so much more this. Hope is more than wishing or wanting something that we must have. Hope is knowing, really knowing that God has everything covered. That he has today, tomorrow and next week covered. He’s already there.
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:24
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
Scripture tells us that while we were yet in our mothers womb, God knew us.(Jeremiah 1:5) It tells us that he has our name written on the palm of his hand. (Isaiah 49:16) Scripture tells us that we are the apple of Gods eye. (Psalm 17:8)
Throughout Scripture we find many circumstances where God delivered his people. He brought them out of darkness to wonderful places. He proves his faithfulness by leading us safely through our trials. He said he would never leave us or for sake us.
There is absolutely no reason that we shouldn’t be trusting him to provide for us, and to see to every one of our needs.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Roman’s 15:13
So, when the things of this life come against you and start to choke out that hope you have and overtake it, go directly to scripture, seek God and let him finish the work he started in you.
My prayer for you today, is that you would find hope in Christ alone.
