He drew his bow and made me the target for his arrows.
Lamentations 3:12
Jeremiah may have felt the arrows of disappointment and tragedy in his life, but they weren’t fly-by-chance arrows from who-knows-where. They were God’s arrows, and they were part of a sovereign God’s greater plan for the redemption of this broken world. Our hardships and trials, our struggles and pain, are not random. Whatever happens in your life, it is not by chance. It is no fluke. It didn’t result from some crazy, cosmic throw of the dice, or a divine game of Russian roulette gone awry. That means there is purpose—even in the darkness. There is meaning—even in the pain. There is a plan. And the great King over all will very soon bring all the loose ends, frayed threads, broken hearts, and incomprehensible events into a great conclusion that will reveal His glory and His all-surpassing love.
God, I don’t pretend to understand Your methods or purposes, or why You allow what You allow in my life. But I trust You, believe in You, and choose to rest in Your sovereignty. Thank You for the Good Shepherd who loves me. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit—Counselor, Companion and Guide—to show me the way home.
