Thought Of The Day, “Rest In The Storm”, Men’s Daily Devotion

Thought of the day:

Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!” Reference Luke 8:22-25 NKJV

(Note: I was going to share this with someone earlier but felt led to share it on a wider scale)

Many who teach on this particular passage, reflect on how Jesus calms the storms in our lives. They reflect on how we just need to call on Him in Faith. He has The Power to rebuke the storm and bring piece. They are not wrong.Let’s take a look at something many miss.

When the storm was at its most powerful time, and the disciples were freaking out, what was Jesus doing? He certainly was not in freak out mode like the disciples. He was resting peacefully.

It was not a sleep that was brought on because He was exhausted from depression. He seemed to be setting an example for us, even more, that we can rest peacefully during the storms. Why was He resting peacefully? Because, He knew Who His Father is and that He would Protect Him.

When we are in the midst of struggles, we forget that Jesus is there by our side. We forget that we cannot save ourselves and that any attempt to “fix” a problem without God’s Aid, leads us on a path of destruction. It gets us trying to depend on ourselves more and not seeking Our Lord. Most of the time when we do this, we find ourselves in even more trouble.

Let’s follow Jesus’s Example and rest in Him, Who will calm our storms, when we turn our troubles over, we will find more Hope than if we do it ourselves.

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it. We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already.
If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know. Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
