Focus and Commitment

I want to share with you that some will probably say, “Whats the big deal Dewey?” Well for me its a big deal and I want to share it with you as it can help you in your life, and in your ministry……more importantly in your walk with Jesus.

Last night I was surrounded by candy for the trick-or-treaters, Sharon has me hand out the candy to all the kids that come to the door. I love children, it gives me an opportunity to show the love of Jesus.

One little cut girl was putting her candy in a pouch and I kept on filling it with candy even thou she would get one piece and then turn away, but I said to her “Sweetie I have more for you!” The bigger kids and her Dad would laugh. She went a way with a big haul, her pouch was big!!!

What I want to share with you is what ther Lord has done in my life as far as my health and also teaching me about focus and commitment. Some might say they are the same thing, but I say you can be focused, but you can lack the commitment to follow through and stick with what the Lord told you to focus on.

Back in April of this year I was diagnosed as diabetic. It runs in my family. I changed my diet 150 degrees that very moment. The Lord told me that I had to change my eating habits and no sugar allowed. I started at 7.2 A1c to 5.2, my Doctor has lowered my dosage of Metformin to 250mg once a day. I started out at 1,000mg a day. I will go for another test in early December.

Last night I did not have any Halloween candy even thou we had tons, Sharon saved me a little snickers bar that I will have later today, I think. I USED TO EAT A TON OF SNICKERS EVERY HALLOWEEN!  I used to gobble it up every Halloween and the days after!!!  The Doctor allows me to have one donut a week and Sharon makes me a diabetic desert every week. That is all I need, I look forward to it very much. I have to say all the food I do eat now tastes so very good, as I appreciate it so very much more!

I wondered how hard it would be not to have any candy but it was not, as I see the results in my health. I have more stamina, the body aches I was having are gone. I have lost 24 pounds, down to 157.

I am telling you this as from what I see most everyday is people paying the price for not staying focused on the ways of Jesus, His word and ways. I also see it in Pastors and ministry leaders, they get sidetracked, they are involved in so much they lose that laser beam focus. They become non-effective trying to save the world. God can give you a fire hose and not a little garden hose to focus in on what you pour out for Him.

I have seen in my years here in New Mexico, since 1995, too many ministries go by the wayside because of the lack of focus. I visit people in the nursing home and hospitals who have diabetes, but they do not change their eating habits, they do not focus and get committed. I see people on oxygen who still smoke. People want God to heal them but in cases like smoking, drinking, being on a unhealthy diet, drinking sodas when you could be drinking water…..You are disobeying God at that point.

So many want change, but they don’t and then they complain, many keep doing the same thing but expect different results.

So many change directions too many times, they are not listening to God. Too many do not stick with it. They give up, they try different things all the time. They start new diets, new Bible study program, a new ministry program, then they quit. Our God is not a God on confusion, get tuned in with God, tough times do come, but they will leave. God will answer in his time.

God gives us so many blessing, He can help you with your focus and commitment. I hear people say too many times, I tried praying it did not work, I tried going to Church but I have had others things going in my life, I tried to get along with my wife but she just nags me. It takes focus and Commitment in all things and you have to be led my the Holy Spirit in all things, Amen!

God also healed me from a bad hip disease, I wore a full leg brace for almost 2 years starting when I was 4 1/2. The Doctor said I may never walk and run like the other kids. I still remember those words to this day, those words became a driving force in my life and turned me into a preacher.  I am playing softball at age 63. God healed me. I had awesome parents who were focused and committed too me, getting me the best care and most of all praying for me. The words again: Focus and Committed to the ways of God.

I work long hours, but I am focused and committed, yes, I do have my sluggish days, I am learning everyday from my Lord on what he wants me to do and how to do it. It is exciting to learn!

If you look at our Country and all the chaos, one big reason for it, or maybe IT IS THE REASON, we are not focused on God, but ourselves and politics. Too many have made politics their God.

Below I have posted several Bible verses regarding taking care of our bodies, our temple and also on focus and commitment.

I have to add that Sharon and I have around 25 people around us to help us with guidance. People, who by their walk and actions exhibit what it means to be truly with the Lord.

I pray that this post helps you.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
