“Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
Isaiah 41:14
The Bible takes great pains to remind us how small we are. In today’s Scripture, for instance, we read: “‘Do not be afraid…little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,’ declares the Lord.” There’s a reason God’s Word makes so much of our smallness. It’s that He wants us to remember and consider how big He is. And not only is He great and mighty; He is also willing to help us with every issue we face. After all, if God has done the greater—the bigger—things, then won’t He attend to the smaller things as well? If He has saved you from hell and gifted you with eternal life, won’t He also help and sustain you in the tiniest details of your daily struggles? Today, gather up all your wants and needs; collect your emptiness and your worries, great and small. The Lord of the universe, who bought you with His blood, stands ready to help you.
Heavenly Father, I love the last chapters in the book of Job, where the patriarch is overwhelmed with Your ability to move heaven and earth and yet keep track of the tiniest details in Your creation. And that’s the way it has been in my life too. You concern Yourself with what concerns me. Thank You.
