God Speaks to us Through Prayer By Jeanne Theriault
Prayer is the most powerful connection to God. It is how we express our thanks and gratitude, make our petitions known and intercede for others. Sometimes there are waiting prayers, sometimes he gives us specific instructions and sometimes he is silent. Other times he speaks to us and provides us with an answer in the most surprising of ways. No matter what he always answers in his own timing. In issues big or small he will touch our hearts and draw our attention in the right direction.
Lets look at David in Psalm 4:1 Answer me when I call to you O my righteous God, Give me relief from my distress, be merciful to me and hear my prayer.
Here we see David laying in bed unable to sleep as events floods his mind. He could not find rest. He did not sense that God had heard him or answered his prayers. So therefore he did not have any peace.
Many of us have had similar experiences. In our minds and in our hearts turn problems over and over. We can learn from David in these moments.
Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name will trust in you for you Lord have never forsaken those who seek you
David was remained that the Lord had set apart the faithful for himself. Though the circumstances might not seem to change but he believed that the Lord will hear when he calls out to him
Psalm 4;3 Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself the Lord will hear when I call to him.
During times when he was worried he was to reflect in his heart and be still to focus on God not his problem.
Psalm 4:4 In your anger do not sin when you are on your beds search your hearts and be silent.
David needed to look back and remembered the ways that God had blessed him and delivered him.
David knew that in trusting in God he could say I will both lie down and sleep in peace. He knew that in God he could live in safety.
This is the peace God promises for all who call on him and therefore we can rest in him.
Psalm 5:12 For surely O Lord you bless the righteous you surround them with your favor as with a shield’
Psalm 17:1 Hear O Lord my righteous plea listen to my cry give ear to my prayer
Psalm 6:9 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy the Lord accepts my prayer
Psalm 116:1-2 I love the Lord for he heard my voice he heard my cry for mercy Because he turned his ear to me I will call on him as long as I live
