Many decisions we make today are based on the actions of those around us and how they conduct their lives. Young people have so many influences outside of family and friends, it’s no wonder some of the decisions they make are not the best. The world around us tends to make us who we are, but the world is full of bad choices and poor taste for those of us who want to see better for our kids and grand kids.
It seems that if enough people go along with something, it becomes normal. Having lived through 7 decades, I have seen most of these changes first-hand and can witness to the fact that today’s world values are not what most decent folks should want for their kids. It might be too late to change some things back to how they used to be, but we can start by changing our own outlook and making some wise choices of our own…which hopefully will rub off on our young people.
Why do people think the old ways of dating, getting married, then living together as husband and wife are so bad? The world said it is okay to tell your kids what is right for you is wrong for them. How do we say to them, “do as I say, not as I do,” and expect them to respect our choices with no questions? Is ‘everybody does it’ really a good enough reason to discard the old ways? Are we so afraid of being ‘different’ that no question of right and wrong is even considered? When we older folks point these changes out and give our opinion, we are told to “get with the times.” This truly is NOT my mother’s world anymore.
The way the world does things has never been perfect and never will be. We see places where changes need to be made every day…and people busy trying to make these changes …while still others protest against it. It seems in the sixties someone said, “If it feels good, do it,” and everybody ran with that thought.
Why do we have to follow rules? Why do we have to work for a living? Why bother with getting married? Why have kids, if we choose not to? Who says marriage has to be between a man and a woman? Who says electing a man President gives him authority over anything? Who says our country was built on Christian beliefs? Who says Jesus Christ is God? Who says the Bible is true? Who says…
The world asks these questions every day and it will be up to our kids and grand kids to find the answers. But will they, if we allow all the old ways and ideas to be destroyed? We have those who want to change history because it is offensive to some. They twist and turn our laws to meet the needs of a few till no one knows what the laws are anymore. We call ourselves the United States when each one is allowed to make its own laws. So-called sanctuary cities are allowed to protect criminals and the police are not allowed to act without consent of the mayor. We combat guns and drugs by putting up signs and expect the criminals not to cross these lines.
Where did we lose sight of right and wrong? How do we get back to being a united states and one nation under God? How do we begin to heal our homes and keep our families together? The answer is the same as it has always been…and no amount of protesting can change it. The truth found in the Word of God, words breathed by our creator, is the only answer we will find that will insure change for the better in our families, our country and in the world. Let he who has ears to hear listen.
The world says: “Go ahead, break that rule, who’s going to know?”
God says: “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
The world says: “Money will solve all your problems.”
God says: “For the love of money is the root of all evil…Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”
The world says: “Abortion should be legal. It is your choice, your body, your decision.”
God says: “Thou shalt not kill.”
The world is not concerned with you or for you, but doesn’t it make sense that the One who created the world would have a deep concern for those He placed in it? Jesus Christ gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world. He tells us in John 16:33 These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world!
