A Father In An Old Red Truck… Happy Father’s Day!

Good morning beautiful people, good morning. I pondered this morning what I would pen, being Father’s Day. I am the youngest child born to my parents that are now both deceased. My father was almost fifty when I was born. He seemed like a very old man to me, that was until I reached fifty. Fifty seems quite young to me now. Doesn’t it to you as well?

When my dad took his last breath at the hospital here in town, I sat beside him holding his hand. I went one by one over and over again the names of family members telling him they loved him. I remember the Chaplain was there as well. The alarm sounded, the last breath was taken and his life here on earth was now no more.

My dad was an unusual man to say the least. He drank coffee brandy every morning. He never attended school and was a very uneducated man. My sister told me stories of how my dad would work long hours in the woods, take a bus to go get medicine for her or something she needed. She had been born with a rare bone disease. I am sure life was tough for him to say the least.

I remember the rides to everywhere my friend and I wanted to go as a teenager. Her dad drove a Cadillac, my dad drove an old truck, a very old red truck. The embarrassing kind of truck, that you got dropped off around the corner from your actual destination. He was always willing to take us where we wanted to go.  Memories, so many memories packed in the recesses of our mind. I am told I look a lot like my father.

Today, if you have a father with a beating heart, reach out. Not because they were perfect, the most educated, rich or poor, but because God’s Word tells us to honor him. God knew who your dad was long before you did. (Psalm 139). Before the foundations of the earth his Word tells us our days were written.

I want to tell you one last thing about my dad. When his apartment was cleaned out and all the items removed, we found a small Bible that had written in it steps to go to heaven. A local pastor had taken the time to meet with him and explain it. It became a treasure to a family that wasn’t sure.

Be sure today beautiful people, be sure where you will spend eternity. You are only one prayer away from journeying life with a perfect Father, your Heavenly Father.

Let’s Pray:

Father, thank you for grace. It is only by your mercy and grace we can come before a Holy God.

Father, thank you for being a good Father, the best Father. Every earthly father will fall short, but you have come to give life and life more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Father, may forgiveness be extended today from children to father, father to children. May the love of Christ flow throughout our world today, we pray. Amen

Have a blessed day God’s beautiful people. Honor your earthly father today and have a talk with your Heavenly Father (pray).
