‘The Return’ Leaders Call Countdown to Landmark Prayer Gathering America’s ‘Kairos Moment’

Movement Leaders Urge American Christians, Churches to Seize God-Given Opportunity To Spark Revival

NEW YORK—As preparations continue for the forthcoming landmark national and global day of remembrance known as “The Return,” leaders of the nationwide movement have identified the countdown to the September 26 event as a “kairos moment” for the American church—i.e., a golden opportunity.

The Bible presents God as positioning His people in the right times and places as God orchestrates events for His glory, according to “The Return” Co-Leader Jonathan Cahn, author of “The Harbinger” and multiple New York Times Bestsellers.

“The Greek word for opportunity as it appears in the Scriptures is kairos. Scholars tell us it means ‘favorable opportunity,’” Cahn said. “Its derivatives imply ‘the right moment; that which lasts only for a while.’ Kairos means a God-given opportunity is being offered to mankind at a specific moment in time.”

“The Return”—the prayer and worship gathering of thousands of believers in Washington, D.C., this September—is one such example of God calling His people together to repentance and revival. Christians who seize kairos moments experience personal or corporate repentance, reconciliation, restoration, revival, and restoration.

But America’s kairos moment—favorable opportunity—comes with a timestamp. Kairos moments don’t last forever. They must be acknowledged, or they’re lost, says “The Return” Co-Leader Kevin Jessip.

“The word also implies there is a risk of faith,” Jessip said. “In other words, as time moves on, the opportunity can be missed. The test for us as a people is to recognize it and respond in obedience to the one who is offering it, trusting in His ability to work through us to fulfill His purposes. We are living in a kairos moment today.”

The upcoming event “The Return: National and Global Day of Prayer and Repentance,” set for September 26, stands as means to prepare for God’s provision of a pivotal Kairos moment in the nation’s history, perhaps one our contemporary era has not yet witnessed. Although God extends favor to all generations, leaders of “The Return” identify this upcoming event as a herald of a unique season of God’s favor and an opportunity for Christians across America to lead the country in turning back in repentance to God.

“The time has come for each of us,” Cahn said. “We have been called to seize the moment. We are at a threshold of the greatest move of God in our time. Though the ‘time of God’s favor’ has been generously extended to all people in all times through the cross, church historians have noted that there have been specific seasons of God’s increased favor through history.”

Cahn has also recorded a special video for “The Return,” which already has over a million views. Watch here.

“The Return” is set for 40 days before the presidential election, and on the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, in the days of America’s founding and dedication to God. Surrounding the “The Day of Return” on Sept. 26 at the Washington Mall will be 10 days, known from ancient times as the Days of Awe, to be set as a special time of prayer and repentance from Sept. 18-28.

Coordinated events within “The Return” movement will also take place throughout America’s cities, towns, houses of worship and homes, as well as in multiple countries around the world, as many believe the nation has been given a critical window of opportunity to repent and return to God.
