A Testimony and Prayer for Such a Time as This, You Must Take The Time and Read This, Please

This message posted by our wonderful brother Dr. Jim Denison, such a shining light for Jesus, stopped me in my tracks today. The following testimony and prayer is from Henri Nouwen. I love the writings and prayers of Henri. I have some of his books. When I read this I had to stop for a bit and reflect and pray. With all the ‘nothing noise’ in the world, not much stops people and get them to read THE WHOLE STORY and let it soak in.

A prayer I invite you to share

Trying harder to do better is much better than the alternative. Optimism in pessimistic times is often the result of such transformational activism.

But the best option is to trust God and then work in his leading and power. We can make an eternal impact on our temporal culture if we live and serve in such omnipotence (cf. Zechariah 4:6).

To that end, let’s close with this testimony from Henri Nouwen: “I know that true joy comes from letting God love me the way God wants, whether it is through illness or health, failure or success, poverty or wealth, rejection or praise. It is hard for me to say, ‘I shall gratefully accept everything, Lord, that pleases you. Let your will be done.’ But I know that when I truly believe my Father is pure love, it becomes increasingly possible to say these words from the heart.”

Nouwen then quotes a prayer by Charles de Foucauld that expresses the spiritual attitude he seeks:

Father, I abandon myself into your hands,
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you;
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures.

I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,
and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.

I made his prayer my own this morning. Will you join me?

NOTE: This is the last note you’ll see from me regarding the release of our newest book, Biblical Insight to Tough Questions, Vol. 6 (and our limited edition box set of all 6 volumes). In our new book, I discuss what the Bible says about being blessed by God, what distinguishes Catholics from Protestants, why religious liberty matters, and 7 other topics. I urge you to please request your copy today to ensure that you’ll receive the book.

This story from the Baptist News should make us all stand up and pay attention to what is happening to many Pastors during this COVID mess. Pray for all Pastors and their families around the globe, it is a very tough time for them and their families.

Too many pastors are falling on their own swords

I adore this prayer…….

From Harvest Prayer:

O Lord, our Rock and Redeemer, may the words of our pastors’ mouths and the meditations of their hearts be pleasing in Your sight (Psa. 19:14).

May You, O Lord, give our pastor(s) the desires of their hearts and make all of their plans succeed (Psa. 20:4).

Lord, our God, may Your favor rest upon our pastor(s) and establish the work of their hands (Psa. 90:17).

God of hope, may You fill our pastor(s) with all joy and peace as they trust in You, so that they may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 15:13).

Lord of peace, may You give our pastor(s) and their families peace at all times and in every way (2 Thess. 3:16).

May You, the God of peace, equip our pastor(s) with everything good for doing Your will, and may You work in them what is pleasing to You, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen (Heb. 13:20-21).
