There’s enough power in this little verse to ponder for an entire year. Just think: every promise that the Father has ever made finds its fulfillment in his Son, the Lord Jesus. When God promises that he will impart to us grace, he gives us Jesus, the Lord of grace. When God promises to give us peace, he gives us Jesus, the Prince of peace. The promise of comfort? He gives us the Lord of all comfort. And when he imputes to us his righteousness, he gives us his Son, the Lord of righteousness. Even life finds its source in Jesus, the Word of life.
Even the familiar promise of Romans 8:28-29 finds its fulfillment in Christ: “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him…For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son” (emphasis added). This wonderful promise we so often claim is fulfilled in Jesus.
Jesus is everything to you—the answer to your every hope, prayer, and promise. The Christian walk is not so complicated after all. It is simple. It is…Jesus. And I say, “Amen” to that.
Revelation 3:14 says, “These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.” The word amen means “so be it” and “so it will be” and “so it is.” Today what can you say “Amen!” to? How is Jesus the “so be it” in your life?
I sing today,
Standing on the promises of Christ my Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
When I stand on your promises, Jesus, I am grounded in you. Amen. |
