Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:4
Not long ago, before COVID, I was at the mall chatting with Mary over coffee when I mentioned my friend Bonnie whose neuro-muscular disease had recently put her in a nursing home. There, she was confined to bed. I lamented, “It’d be good if we could spend time praying for Bonnie. I hear she’s depressed.” That’s when we looked at one another and said in unison, “What are we doing here?!” We gathered our things and hurried across town to Bonnie’s place. We sat at her bedside, reading the Bible, telling stories, and praying. At the end of our visit, we were all strengthened in Christ. Philippians 2:4 says, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” The next time you enjoy coffee with a friend, consider others who are shut in. Reach out! Jesus will bless you as you do!
