For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:5-8
For a long time after my diving accident, I was stuck in a cycle of depression. I kept waiting for my circumstances to change, but they never did. When I finally got tired of feeling blue all the time, I took the advice in 2 Peter 1:5. “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ” It took great discipline, but once I made every effort to do the hard work of believing God and his promises, my depression dissipated. It’s the path out of depression for you, too. Need help with that? We stand ready to pray for you.
God has engraved you on the palms of his hands. Not just your name, but everything about you – your dreams, difficulties, weaknesses and pains. He has engaged all his power to sustain and relieve you. Trust the one who has written you on his hands.
