These are troubling times in our nation. Nowadays, it’s hard to have a civil conversation about national policy or what’s happening in our culture. If you disagree with someone, they take it personally. And before you know it, a quarrel erupts. The antidote, though? Keep building bridges in creative and compassionate ways. Jesus says in Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth,” so make certain that the salt which you shake into our culture has potency, making people thirsty for God, rather than giving them a bad taste for God. Remember Jesus’ next words; he says, “If the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything.” Oh friend, do not lose your effectiveness for Christ’s kingdom. Keep looking for God-honoring ways to reach out to those with whom you disagree. That makes you the salt of the earth.
