Easily Angered?

So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:6-7 NKJV

The anger that Cain was experiencing here was from jealousy. This stemmed from an insecurity in his life. He had a hard time accepting that his brother’s gift to The Lord was accepted above his. This insecurity led him to murder his brother.

Jesus told us in Matthew 5:21-26, that if we hate our brothers and sisters, we have committed murder in our hearts. In verses 43-48 He talks about how we are to love others to include our enemies.

Why? It helps our hearts to be softened. And how do we learn to love others? Jesus talks about in Luke 17:1-10, that this can be achieved by serving others. He also talked about how this will increase our faith.

If we are to truly to learn how to not be angry, jealous, insecure, we find throughout scripture that we can achieve this by taking our focus of ourselves. We are then to put it on Jesus and learn to love. Then we are to put it in practice by loving others, even when they are unlovable. After all, someone did this for us.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 ESV

If we learned to not become so easily offended by what others do to us, how would that change the world around us? Jesus sacrificed everything for us without saying anything in anger to his accusers, even though they falsely accused Him.

Let’s ask Him to help us today to not become so easily angered.
