Dewey,
On Monday of this week, the people of Myanmar watched as their government was changed suddenly in a coup. The military took power and detained many of the civilian leaders. Christians in Myanmar watched with worry. Many of them remember how difficult life was under the military authorities who ruled Myanmar for almost 50 years, until 2011. Even under civilian rule, Myanmar has been a hard place to follow Jesus—that’s why it’s No. 18 on the 2021 World Watch List. But under military rule again? “It feels like our hope has been taken away,” says one pastor. Our sisters and brothers in Myanmar are doing what they know how to do best: falling to their knees in prayer, asking God for help and strength. And they’re asking you to join them. “As communication remains unreliable and the situation remains volatile, let’s be one with our brothers and sisters in Myanmar through prayer,” says Open Doors Communications Director for Asia, Jan Vermeer. “While our partners do their best to respond on the ground, let’s trust God to be their strength and shield. Our prayers go where we cannot.”
Thank you so much for your prayers, for being the hands and feet of Jesus. Your compassion and encouragement remind Christians in Myanmar—and around the world—they belong to a global community of believers. Best, |
