FROM YESTERDAY:
Pastor Dewey Note: Yesterday I called Ethel Maharg who heads up Right to Life of New Mexico. Even thou she was very busy as usual, I asked her to write a message of encouragement to all of us in New Mexico as we once again face an onslaught of anti-life legislation. The Lord showed me yesterday that many of us are fatigued with the continued battle for life here in our state. Who better to give us a pep talk than Ethel?
Whose Report Are You Going to Believe!
As we are in this battle for life I reflect on 2019 where we as a state defeated the radical abortion bill HB 51 when 8 Senate Democrats crossed party lines to stand for life. The ones I spoke with said it was an easy decision because they believed in the sanctity of life, yet it came at a price. Five of the eight were primaried by their own party. Senators Carlos Cisneros had already passed on to glory when the election took place, but we lost Senators Gabriel Ramos, Mary Kay Papen, John Arthur Smith, Clemente Sanchez, and Richard Martinez. Only Senators Pete Campos and George Munoz survived their races.
Why do I bring up what to many is considered ancient history? Because God always told the people to always remember what He had brought them through. King David continually rehearsed what victories God had brought him, therefore when he was discouraged he encouraged himself in the Lord.
In 2019 we were encouraged, and people were hopeful about the distant possibility of winning. Nothing has changed folks. We are still up against a giant, but this time we are walking around defeated and discouraged. One of the greatest tools of the enemy is discouragement. When this sets in it is deadly, because we begin to believe the lie of the enemy that says that all hope is lost. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? The situation looks grave, but the Bible says that we are to exercise our faith and call out things that are not as though they are. We must continually focus on God and not our circumstances.
We have one victory under our belt, thanks to God. We must continually believe that if God came through for us then, He will do it again. It does not matter what it looks like, smells like, tastes like, or feels like, God is still in control and we know it is His will that we stand for the unborn and all who cannot stand for themselves.
We give tribute to the heroes of the past and look to see who God is raising up. May a holy fear come on these people as they realize It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Let us all choose to believe and declare the good report that says we are winning!
