New Mexico Senate Republicans Respond to Governor’s Revised COVID Framework
New Mexico adds Turquoise level to ‘Red to Green’ framework
SANTA FE – Following a recent letter to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham from Senate Republicans, the Governor today released several modifications to the “Red to Green Framework.” In the letter to the Governor, sent last Friday, Senate Republicans asked the Governor to make several revisions to the framework, including rounding down positivity rates and allowing all restaurants to open at twenty-five percent capacity.
Senator Cliff Pirtle (District 32- Chaves, Otero, and Eddy) and Senate Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Bernalillo and Valencia) released the following statements regarding the Governor’s revised framework:
“I am thankful for the Governor’s response and her willingness to retool the framework,” said Senator Pirtle. “Though this represents a small step in the right direction, it is worth noting that restaurants in 14 counties still cannot offer indoor dining. Moving forward, I hope we will take additional steps to allow small business owners to find stability and consistency, and to eventually reopen at full capacity.”
“Many New Mexicans’ livelihoods continue to hang in the balance,” added Senator Baca. “As immunity increases and cases decrease, our small business owners deserve the opportunity to open without the constant threat of regression. Currently there is no path to that goal. I respectfully urge the Governor and health officials to continue to rework this framework in a manner that sends a clearer message that New Mexico is on the road to recovery.”
