Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12
Often, I hesitate in the face of a hard trial. Sometimes I’ll think, “I don’t have the strength for this trial. Maybe this time it’s beyond God’s control.” Time and again, though, the words of the Puritan William Law help clear the air. Centuries ago he wrote, “Receive every inward and outward trouble, every disappointment…darkness and desolation with both your hands, as a blessed occasion of dying to self, and entering into a fuller fellowship with your Savior. Look at no inward or outward trouble in any other view; reject every other thought about it; and then every kind of trial and distress will become the blessed day of your spiritual prosperity.” Oh friend, today when troubles arise, reject thoughts that say you cannot handle them. By God’s grace, you can. Remember, it works toward your prosperity in Christ.
Every day of the week, the Joni and Friends staff prays for our ministry, staff, volunteers, and ministry partners. We invite you to join us in prayer for our ministry activities and outreaches. Thank you for bringing our requests before the Lord.
