Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.
Proverbs 3:27
Here’s a discipline you may fail at, but it’s worth following as best you can: “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it is in your power to help them.” Friend, that’s from Proverbs chapter 3, and it’s a good rule for relating to others. In fact, it’s a golden rule. It’s what Jesus tells us to do in Matthew chapter 7: “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” And then he adds, “For this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Doing good in the name of God sums up the entire Law? According to Jesus, it does. And it includes every situation in which you feel awkward or a little unsure of what to do or say. Just relax and think, what would I want someone to do for me? And then do it. No big deal, just pure and practical kindness. You’ll be surprised at how gloriously golden your day will turn out.
