House Democrats make Daylight Savings partisan, stall bill progress
Santa Fe—Today House Democrats stalled Senate Bill 102, sponsored by Senator Cliff Pirtle (District 32 – Chaves, Eddy and Otero) in the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee. The bill would keep New Mexico on daylight savings time year-round pending federal approval.
“This bill passed out of the Senate with bipartisan support. Instead of considering the merits of giving families an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day, House Democrats retreated into their partisan corner and tabled this bill with no explanation,” retorted Senator Pirtle. “I’m disheartened to see that some members of this legislative body care more about political affiliation than hearing the concerns of their constituents.”
U.S. Senator Marco Rubio recently introduced a similar piece of legislation in the U.S. Congress citing overwhelming support nationally for keeping daylight savings time year-round. New Mexico Daylight saving time bill dies
