This might seem a little late, but I wanted to weigh in on the interview of Prince Harry and Meghan. I’m not one who has ever had much interest in the world of kings and queens (or princes and princesses), but my sister wanted to watch the interview, so we did. It was very interesting, and had I heard nothing about the couple before, it would have been easy to understand their plight and be sympathetic. However, considering the fact that Oprah was the one doing the interview, and the news stories for the last year about Harry and Meghan, it was hard to discern the truth.
The ‘race card’ has been played in so many ways and by so many so much, one’s first thought might be, oh not again. But, it is a problem that needs to be addressed…even if a total solution may never be found. It occurred to me that people of color seem to view that color as a handicap. If any of us are physically handicapped in some way and we are denied a job or other opportunity, we most likely would assume it was because of our handicap, be it a missing limb or a stutter.
Next, there was the claim by Meghan that she was denied help when she was feeling suicidal. There’s never a good excuse for denying help to anyone who is in need of mental healthcare…especially if they admit to being suicidal. There has to be a line even the Royal family refuses to cross despite the fear of media attention. Wouldn’t the attention be even more negative had she attempted to harm herself?
The one take away from the whole interview for me was how it once more proved that money and position are not what it takes to be happy. It’s not a matter of wealth or where you live…but it is about WHO you know. Without knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, any life can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts. My heart goes out to Meghan and Harry and I wish them the best. I pray for God to heal their personal hurts and family relationships. May they all come to realize the importance of Knowing Jesus.
Matthew 16: 26 For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Matthew 19: 16-26 tells about a young man who asked Jesus “What good thing can I do that I may have eternal life?” Jesus went through the Ten Commandments and the young man said. “I have kept all these from my youth up. What do I lack?”
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have and give to the poor and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.”
But when the young man heard that, he turned away in sorrow, for he had great possessions.
Then Jesus told his disciples, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”
“Who then?” they asked, “can be saved?”
Jesus beheld them and said, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
