Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:8
My emotions can easily dictate the day. When I wake up in the morning in a dark mood, my peevish feelings will try to insist, “Joni, don’t even try resisting. These emotions here are strong. They’re adamant about ruling your outlook.” For such mornings I lean into Psalm 62:8, “Trust in the Lord at all times.” And the best time to trust God is when your feelings are telling you to do otherwise. Elisabeth Elliot said, “If you dwell on your own feelings about things rather than dwelling on the faithfulness, the love, and the mercy of God, then you’re likely to have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Our feelings are very fleeting and short-lived. We cannot depend on them for five minutes. But dwelling on the love, faithfulness, and mercy of God is always safe.” Today, if your mood is dark, you go tell your feelings to trust God.
