“And we know”
Romans 8:28-29
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
Go ahead and read this again very slowly and focus on the 1st 2 words ” We know’ What Paul is saying is that when illness overwhelms us when worry about finances are beating us down, when things, in general, seem to be working against us when nothing ever seems to be working for us, Paul here says ” And we know” let that sink in. You see there are things we can’t know, we can’t know completely the mind of God. Oh before some of you get angry; read on. The bible tells us in Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, But those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever that we may do all the words of this law”
The bible is saying that there are things that we will definitely know and we know that from the inspired, revealed word of God. But there are things that the Lord has kept to himself the secret things.
So there are things that we can know but there are things, mysteries that we will never know this side of heaven. for example, take a bumblebee and when you look at it we see something that is impossible for this small, chunky insect with wings that are too small to do–He is flying.
He is buzzing around from one flower to the next. but yet it is aerodynamically impossible for this insect to fit. The only problem is that no one has told the bumblebee that.
There are things we can know, there are things we will never know. but the Lord has kept the secret things to himself that only he knows. like why things happen the way they do.
When things happen that we don’t expect, that we didn’t think of–we are apt to call out to the Lord and say “why are you letting this happen to me! and we seemingly get no answer. but here he says “And we Know’ you see if we are Christians we know, we know from 2 Tim 3:12 that All who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution”
We know from Romans 8;18 That we will suffer certain things. “For I consider that the suffering of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the Glory which will be revealed in us” In the lives of God’s children He takes all our circumstances – both pleasant and painful – and works them together for our good and for His glory…
Notice, each word in verse 28 is strategic… God works not a few things, or some things, or even most things… but “all things together” for good! And He works “all things together.” On their own, there are events in life from which nothing good results.
Yet God takes random and worthless things, puts them together, and then turns them into good. Like the ingredients in a cake, on their own, you can’t stomach them. Flour, eggs, butter are disgusting by themselves – but when the baker puts all the components together under fire, they turn out delicious.
And the same is true with how God works in our lives. Vs. 29 “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the 20 firstborn among many brethren.” Realize, you and I were chosen before we existed to be like Jesus.
The Lord wants to conform us into the image of God, And God is not afraid to use whatever means necessary – even suffering – to accomplish His goal, for your good and for His Glory.
But there are things we will never know this side of heaven, the secret things God keeps to himself but one day in heaven we will know just as we are known. And we will get on our face and worship the living God.
All things work together for good! Look I don’t want to get into a discussion of who is chosen and who is not. If you are not sure, then bow your head and with your heart confess the Lord Jesus and with your mouth ask him to forgive you of your sins, whatever they might be, then invite him into your heart to live and to lead and to love.
Believe that he died on the cross and was risen on the 3rd day and you will be saved.
Just remember that what you are going through, he went through it 1st, he suffered for us, died for us, Hebrews 2:9 “But we see Jesus, who was made [a]a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone” Amen ”
On a wall in his bedroom, Charles Spurgeon had a plaque with Isaiah 48:10 on it: “I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.” “It is no mean thing to be chosen of God,” he wrote. “God’s choice makes chosen men, choice men…
We are chosen, not in the palace, but in the furnace. In the furnace, beauty is marred, fashion is destroyed, strength is melted, glory is consumed, yet here eternal love reveals its secrets, and declares its choice.”
