I remember when I was in first grade, and my older sister Kathy and I were walking home from school. A car suddenly pulled over and a strange man opened his passenger door. He extended his hand filled with candy and asked me, “Here, little girl, would you like some?” I started toward him, but Kathy jerked me back. “Let’s go!” she said, and we began running. We never saw that man again, and only years later did it dawn how dangerously close I came to terrible evil. Psalm 140 says, “Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence.” To this day, I shudder when I recall that incident. But it makes me do what I can to now safeguard vulnerable children from today’s “men of violence.” What can you do to keep children from the hands of the wicked? Because as never before in this culture, they really need you.
