Update on Alan’s family: We mourn the passing of our Brother in Christ, Anthony Hawkins
I was blessed to meet Pastor Alan Hawkins and his lovely bride Gail several years ago when I was manager of KKIM Christian radio in Albuquerque. I got to know him personally, which helped me develop as a radio manager and Pastor. I am very grateful for that. I have not talked to Alan for several years, but he is always on my heart. New Mexico is losing an awesome husband and wife team, as Alan and Gail go on to their next venture. Thank you Pastor Chuck for this tribute!

It’s been about 25 years since I first snuck in the back door of a church to hear Alan Hawkins preach. I was on staff at another church, but Alan’s church had a Saturday night service and I loved to hear him dig into the scripture and pull out gold and silver and precious stones.
It was an honor to serve on his team for 14 years. It was a blessing to watch him navigate all manner of challenges with integrity. It was formational to watch him cling to Jesus through some dark valleys.
Last night, I snuck in the back door to hear Alan preach, perhaps the last time I’ll be able to do so, as he and Gail transition into whatever is next for them. He preached with conviction and sincerity and love for the church and love for God, just like he did the first time I heard him.
With all his gifting’s, perhaps what’s blessed and encouraged me the most is how Alan has been candid about his shortcomings. He’s never pretended to have his act together, and when he’s needed to, he’s talked about his mistakes and missteps from the pulpit. Yes, Dr. Hawkins is a well-educated and gifted Bible expositor and a talented communicator and very few in ministry will be able to match his credentials, but for me, it’s the way he has humbled himself in the sight of the Lord that’s allowed the glory of God to shine through him.
