IT MATTERS. Thirteen U.S. service members and as many as 170 Afghans died Thursday in a suicide bombing at the Kabul Airport. The Taliban claimed a different terror group was responsible and ISIS-K later came forward claiming responsibility. Evacuations continued yesterday, and Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX) reports that some Afghans with Special Immigrant Applications (SIAs)—showing that they’ve assisted the U.S.—are being turned away from the airport, returned to their homes and murdered by the Taliban. The Catholic News Agency also reports that properly credentialed Afghan Christians have been turned away by U.S. officials at the airport, and others are raising funds privately to airlift people to safety. Radio and television host Glen Beck raised more than $28 million this week to rescue more than 7,000 Afghan Christians. And Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse, led by Franklin Graham, has also partnered with other organizations to sponsor flights that take Afghanistan nationals to safety. One of the personal stories of escape has been shared by Shabana Basij-Rasikh, who founded an all-girl school in Afghanistan and relocated dozens of students and staff to Africa last week. “My heart breaks for my country,” said Basij-Rasikh. Here’s her story.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things arelovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
