1 Corinthians 1:27-29 NKJV
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has, chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence”.
There are those who would undoubtedly say “If your God is so great! Why would he use someone as weak and foolish as those he uses to accomplish his will and work here on earth?” Let me suggest” The Lord uses weak things so that only He gets credit. Why? Is He on some huge ego trip? Is He saying, ‘I don’t want anyone else to get any glory because I need to be affirmed, I need to be the top dog’?
Of course not! God uses the weak things not because of any lack in his nature or any need to raise his self esteem, but due to a lack in ours. You see, God knows when He uses someone who is impressive in the eyes of the world, people set themselves up for a huge fall because they will begin to look to that person rather than to God. And when something happens to that person or they just don’t measure up, those that trusted in him will eventually trip up.
So the Lord says, ‘I don’t want any flesh to glory because all flesh will fail you ultimately.’ Sooner or later the one you trust in will let you down because there is no one who is perfect. You see we learn in the Old Testament book of Isaiah that It wasn’t until King Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:1) “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple”..
Who was Uzziah? Well he was one of the most powerful, successful, gifted kings in the history of Judah and Israel, It was said that Uzziah increased the boundaries of the nation, that he ushered in economic prosperity, and invented war machinery and brought peace to the nation. He had all the high places to pagan gods torn down, he sought after the Lord and was an example to them for most of his life, It would have been so easy for them to look to him as the one who saved them, to him as the one who raised them.
Yet although his name was on the lips of all the people (II Chronicles 26:8) “Also the Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah. His fame spread as far as the entrance of Egypt, for he became exceedingly strong”.. It wasn’t until he died that Isaiah saw the Lord.
You see The Lord still allows people to die—not physically—but in the estimation of others, in order that we can more clearly focus on him.
So, wise is the man or the woman, mature is the family or the church who realizes that when the Lord allows your Uzziah to die, that isn’t a reason to quit living but rather to say, ‘Once again, Lord, I see that you are the only One upon whom I can truly and totally rely on. You are the only one in whom I can truly trust.’
For it was only you who did what no one else could do and take my sin upon yourself at the cross. 2 Corinthians 5:21 ” For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” And it is there that this foolish man will be, at the foot of the cross, trusting in you.
