The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
Do you ever wonder why it’s taking the Lord so long to return?
From the beginning of time, through every century, through every major event, during hurricanes and seasons that are hectic, you will hear people say “ Repent, for the Lord is at hand.”
And still, we wait!
Of God’s character, we know that he is long-suffering, he is patient with us. Wanting that none would perish, but all would come to repentance. He’s a good, good Father.
And while we wait, sometimes we tend to get lax on our beliefs or even in our walk with the Lord. And this should not be so.
During our time of waiting, we tend to get discouraged. There are even people walking around living life like they’re promised tomorrow, with not even one thought of eternity.
Waiting is hard and can even test our faith. It’s especially difficult when there are no guarantees that our waiting will ever end in our lifetime.
And though we are not given a day and time, we do know that each day that passes, we are one day closer to His final return.
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief…”
2 Peter 3:10
For the unbeliever though , Jesus’ return will come “like a thief in the night” meaning, they will not be prepared for his arrival.
“You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed it’s coming..”
2 Peter 3:11&12
Life can certainly be full of distractions. The message that Jesus leaves us with, is that we have to be careful not to let the cares of this world keep us from seeking first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33
We know that as Christians, God has a place for us in his Kingdom, but we should also know that our choices here on earth have eternal consequences as well.
Jesus says that his followers are known by the way they love and serve others.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:35
We are to be the ones that feed the poor and welcome the lost into our homes. Jesus will return at any moment, and this should motivate us to a life of devotion and service to others as we look forward to this day.
And remember, God is not slow, he’s just waiting on all of his children to come around. He won’t wait forever though.
So, be ready for the unexpected arrival of Jesus. Let him find you serving others and seeking him.
Many Blessings,
Connie
