It started to rain here on the west side of Albuquerque at about 4am today. I have been praying for all those that have had their lives turned upside down by the largest wildfire in New Mexico history. To those folks, I am sure many of them are filled with fear that a flash flood will come and destroy more property! I could not beleive how long it took the governor to get to work on this fire when it started, and all the other fires. The governor seems to think throwing money at this horrific tragedy will fix all, it is way too late for that governor, many lives are changed forever because of the continued dysfunction in the forest service and the the federal and state government. All you folks have not properly managed our gifts from God, our lands, trees, wildlife, lakes, creeks, rivers, watersheds, and more. No political, double talk will work. This is one of the biggest tragedies in New Mexico’s history and it was totally preventable! Now many folks have the concern of flash flooding. Money is not a fix all. Bring back the timber industry! This is more proof on why people do not trust the government, whether its the Dems or GOP: From Dr. Jim Denison: Only 2 percent of Americans trust the federal government to do what is right “just about always.” Another 19 percent trust the government “most of the time.” In 1958, by contrast, about three-quarters of Americans trusted the federal government to do the right thing almost always or most of the time. On my road trips and here in Albuquerque the majority of people I talk to, have had it with the GOP and Dems, they are both very dysfunctional. It is like an everyday, horrible soap opera in America.
Sad to say, but many, or some or need to be fired and taken to court for negligence! Bringing the President to New Mexico was all political on both Lujan Grisham and Biden’s part. All talk no action.
Here is the statement the governor put out yesterday on the report of the forest services failures:
“I am deeply frustrated by the numerous missteps within the Las Dispensas burn identified by this review. It is very difficult to understand how a plan crafted several years ago could be repeatedly re-approved without adjustments or considerations for updated drought conditions, as well as how that plan could be put into place without any immediate data for weather conditions during what New Mexicans know to be a particularly windy time of the year. In addition, it does not appear that anyone involved in this burn was held to account for the significant mistakes made during this burn.
It is critical that moving forward, the U.S. Forest Service takes every identified opportunity to ensure forest management activities do not result in the devastation of hundreds of thousands of acres and dozens of New Mexico communities. I will continue working to hold the federal government accountable for making New Mexicans whole after the extreme hardship caused by the Forest Service’s negligence.”
