I received this very important information today from Janice E. Arnold Jones for New Mexico Voters, mainly for REGISTERED INDEPENDENTS! This is good news! The New Mexico Primary is June 7th.

1.  It has been confirmed with the SOS that Independents and Others who are non affiliated registered voters CAN update their registration by choosing a party at the polling locations during early voting AND election day.   No registered Independents should be turned away NOR given a provisional ballot.   All they have to do is see the SAME DAY REGISTRATION Systems clerk, show picture ID & proof of residency (NM DL suffice for both) and choose a party.    After that’s completed they will proceed to the systems clerk to be issued a ballot to vote & they will need to vote that SAME DAY.   This is confirmed in the Election Handbook of 2021 under statute 1-4-5.7 Letter E.
IF they do not want to choose a major party then they MAY be given a provisional ballot but it will be rejected during canvassing.
2.  The above does not apply to Major party registered voters.  For example if a Democrat or Libertarian want to change to Republican they may not do so at the SAME DAY REGISTRATION Clerk. That must be done no later than this friday online or at the clerks office.   Do not fill out a form because we risk it not being processed on time.
3. ANY Registered voter, no matter the party can update their address so they vote in their respective district.   If their NM Drivers License does not yet reflect the new address they must show proof of residency.
4. For anyone who visits the SAME DAY REGISTRATION clerk for whatever reason: register new, address change, name change, or party change for Independents,  they must show picture ID and proof of residency.
3.  Please feel free to share with anyone you know is working the polls and/or poll challenging.
Any questions? If so, please contact Janice.
