The Casualty Of Our Current Times – “The Truth”

In a moment of frustration recently, the Lord brought to my attention something that I really wanted to share.  Consider, if you will, many of the positions, beliefs and advocacies we face every day through our elected and unelected government officials, school administrators, the press, social media, family, and even from some the pulpits of our own churches.  How much of what we hear, see or read every day is based in biblical truth and worthy of emulation or action?

Simply look at local, national or even international news and it becomes clear that we are being bombarded from all sides with the “wisdom of man” with absolutely no mention of the Christian faith and the teachings of the bible – as if the Christian faith was a nicety, a fairy tale or simply irrelevant.  How often have we heard a person nominated for a judgeship state during hearings that we need not be concerned because the judge’s religious beliefs would not be considered when deciding matters before the court?  Shouldn’t one’s faith be a critical component of such deliberations when the good of society is being deliberated?  Godly men and women should be leaders in civil government BECAUSE of the wisdom, virtue and love found in Christ Jesus!  Scripture says that God’s divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue (Ref. 2 Peter 1:3).  We should seek and embrace God’s will in all we do, not place some imaginary firewall into place so that the world will find us acceptable.

We live in an age where, according to many persons in this world, we can take the life of an unborn baby with impunity – some even referring to abortion as a “human right.”  We can decide to be one of dozens (or more) genders and expect everyone to suddenly forget about past centuries of human perspective and more importantly, God’s creation of man found in Genesis.  We can, at will, declare that we have just become or identify as the opposite sex and expect everyone else, under penalty of law, to pretend along with us.  We expect pastors to “marry” a man to a man or a woman to a woman with the blessing of the church, and to teach our children at home and at school that this is perfectly “normal” and worthwhile for society – or we are nothing more than bigots to be avoided.

Many also seem to believe that we’ll be more “free” if we look to civil government for all of our needs – when in fact, we are enslaving ourselves.  One need not look hard to discover that almost every item you touch or activity you do during the day is regulated by the government, whether it’s how the items were made, how they were shipped, how much they cost, who could sell them and who couldn’t, how many you can have, how much tax you must pay, how you are allowed to dispose of the wastes, and so forth.  Everything is regulated!

Well, here’s the good news!  Let’s always remember, no matter how rough our day might have become, that the Truth is a Person!  Jesus says He is the truth and that He is the only way we can come unto the Father (John 14:6).  The entirety of God’s word is truth and every single righteous judgement of God endures forever (Psalm 119:160).  Lying lips are an abomination to God, but He delights in those who deal truthfully (Proverbs 12:22).  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to testify of Jesus, and lead us into and keep our focus on the Truth (John 15:26).

It’s important to remember that the wisdom of this world is futility and foolishness.  The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing (1 Corinthians 1:18) .  The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  Those who become wise in their own eyes – instead of seeking the will of God – will become caught up in their own craftiness (1 Corinthians 3:18-19).  As the Lord says through Apostle John, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth” (3 John 3-4).

I realize this may seem a bit hard to some, but as we go about our days – and I speak from personal experience – it becomes all too easy to forget that much of what we see in the natural and hear about in our day-to-day lives is not of the Lord, is not in line with His will for us, or is simply untruthful.  Frankly, it can be depressing!  But, the battle is the Lord’s and He’s already defeated the evil one!  We, as children of God, need to walk in that understanding and perspective, even when it seems difficult.  The bible says that we are one with the Father through Christ, and that the Father loves us just like He loves Jesus (John 17:23)!  Oh my!  The point here is that we should look to Jesus for discernment of the truth and trust the word of God in all matters of our lives.  He is always faithful and true.  After all, the Truth is a Person, and His name is Jesus!

1 Corinthians 3:18-19 [NKJV]

1 Timothy 6:20-21 [NLT]

“Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you.  Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge.  Some people have wandered from the faith by following such foolishness.”
