In Genesis, chapters 18-19, we read about the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and Abraham’s brother, Lot. The Lord told Abrham that the city was going to be destroyed because the sins of the people there had become grievous to Him. Thinking of his brother and family who lived there, Abraham inquired of the Lord, “Suppose there be 50 righteous people there, will you not spare the city because of them?”
God answered,” If I find in Sodom fifty righteous, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
Not sure that 50 could be found, Abraham asked, “Suppose they lack five of the fifty?
God said, “If I find there forty and five I will not destroy it.”
Abraham proceeded to ask about 40, and then thirty, twenty, and ten…surely there would be 10 including all his brother’s family…
God answered, “I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.”
In the end, the Lord found only four, Lot, his wife, and two daughters who were willing to be led out of the city before it was destroyed. They were told to flee into the mountains and not to look back…but his wife looked behind her at the sounds of destruction. And she was turned into a pillar of salt. Gen. 19: 26
This story from Genesis came to mind as I considered something the Lord has laid on my heart recently. It has been said by many, myself among them, that our country is in need of revival…Not just revival for those already saved, but a crusade like Billy Graham used to host; where the gospel is preached and every soul given an opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
A few, like Franklin Graham, have made an effort to reach every area of our country and thousands have turned out to hear and respond to God’s word of hope and salvation. I can only imagine the cost of a crusade like Billy Graham’s today. But, what if there were fifty like Franklin Graham, who were willing to do what he’s done and preach in every state? If not fifty, then twenty-five could cover two states each with the news of Jesus. Or if only ten could be found willing, five states each could easily be covered in a year.
We can’t just keep praying that our country will turn back to God. We have to give people hope and an opportunity to change. We must stop talking about it and make it happen! I have no idea how to start the ball rolling other than to put this out there and pray that someone who does know gets wind of it. Is there an alliance of ministers or evangelists somewhere that we could write to? How do you reach these people of God when you need them? Somebody knows, and somebody can do it. It must be done soon if we have any chance of our country standing as one nation under God.
I ask that you share this with as many people as you can and let’s all be a part of making it happen… hopefully before the end of 2024. We are the United States and able to call ourselves ‘indivisible’ only because our foundation was built on our faith in one God, Jesus Christ. Our ability to survive will be found only in Him. Let us work together to show the world there is a God in America…and His name is Jesus Christ!
