I am so very thankful that Almighty God has granted us another year to serve Him, and to be His hands and feet here on the earth until Jesus returns! Let me start by wishing everyone who reads this and enjoys the ministry of For God’s Glory Alone Ministry (“FGGAM”) a joyous and peaceful Thanksgiving holiday. FGGAM’s mission is to bring forth relevant news and Christian inspiration from the perspective of a biblical world view. We give God all the glory because He alone is worthy and deserving of our worship!
As we pray over our meals, family and guests this week, let’s thank God for His blessings upon our nation. From the landing of the Pilgrims, to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, to the leadership of our founding fathers, and to the many Americans who fought our battles (some giving the ultimate sacrifice), we thank God for sustaining America’s liberty and religious freedoms – as a nation founded upon Christian beliefs and principles.
Pastor Dewey Moede recently published a wonderful article about President George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789. See Pastor Moede’s article HERE. See President Washington’s address HERE. The opening paragraph of the proclamation states:
“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
It’s clear that President Washington intended for the nation to publicly offer thanksgiving and prayers to God for our safety, happiness and the freedom found in our form of government.
As one who is always ready to worship God in music, I’d like to share a worship song with you. Sometimes it’s just too easy during our busy lives to lose sight of the incredible power, glory and HOLINESS of our LORD. The scriptures say we are to be thankful in all things (Colossians 3:14-16 and Ephesians 5:19-20). The scriptures also say we are to be holy because He is holy (1 Peter 1:15-16). This is God’s best for us! There’s no better time than this week to adjourn to the “secret place” to listen and worship along with this song – or share it with others!
Here is Give Thanks by Don Moen. This is a beautifully-played, live video recording of the song:
Supporting Scriptures:
Colossians 3:14-16 [NKJV]
“But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:19-20 [NKJV]
“…[Speak] to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”.
1 Peter 1:15-16 [NKJV]
“…but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘[b]e holy, for I am holy.’”
Praise Jesus forevermore!
