CBS News reported last night, November 5, 2022, that regularly-scheduled blackouts in Kyiv and seven other regions of the country are being implemented because of Russia’s continued and devastating strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Russian forces have continued to pound Ukrainian cities and villages with missiles and drones, inflicting damage on power plants, water supplies and other civilian targets.
Although Russia has denied using drones from Iran, the Islamic Republic’s foreign minister stated yesterday, for the first time, that Iran had supplied Moscow with “a limited number” of drones before the invasion.
Ukrenergo, the sole operator of Ukraine’s high-voltage transmission lines, announced that scheduled, daily blackouts of six or more hours per day will take place in the greater Kyiv region and several other regions – Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Poltava and Kharkiv.
