THE SALVATION ARMY AIDING ACOMA PUEBLO COMMUNITY FOLLOWING WATER AND POWER SYSTEM FAILURES
PHOENIX (Nov. 10, 2022) – The Salvation Army Southwest Division – based in Phoenix and serving all of Arizona, New Mexico and Southern Nevada – has deployed an Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team to aid those affected by a recent failure of the water and power systems in the Acoma Pueblo community in New Mexico, west of Albuquerque.
EDS first responded this past weekend with 80 food boxes for residents. Since the system failures, children have been unable to attend school, so The Salvation Army was contacted by the State of New Mexico’s Emergency Operations Center and asked to continue aid for about a month, helping to feed 270 children per day.
The Salvation Army has also worked with MIDWEST FOODS in Phoenix to send into the Acoma Pueblo a truckload (24-30 pallets) of water, sports drinks, snacks, cereal, and hand sanitizer.
No matter where disasters or emergencies strike, The Salvation Army EDS is among the first to arrive on the scene and often the last to leave, serving survivors and first responders with: emergency food, beverages and snacks, shelter, financial assistance, case management, PPE, household goods, repair and rebuild assistance, donations management, and emotional and spiritual care.
As one of the largest disaster-relief organizations in the country, The Salvation Army is ready with immediate response and recovery plans unique to the community affected – plans forged from over 120 years of recovery efforts and learnings from across the world.
