From time to time people ask me when I am going to retire. I say something like this, I will stop when God says to. How does a preacher that is called by God retire unless God says to? Retirement is not mentioned in the Bible. I have learned over the years that God will tell me what to do. Amen! I make a mess of things when I do not listen to God. Pastor Wilton speaks to this retirement stuff.
From CHURCHLEADERS:
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (BP) – As of last Sunday, Don Wilton may no longer be the pastor of First Baptist Church. But he has no affection for a certain word.
It’s one he would like to see … well, retired.
“The word ‘retirement’ is very unfortunate and non-existent for me,” said Wilton regarding his decades of ministry, 30 years of them spent at First Baptist. “God called me to share His truth to a searching world.”
From Chuck Lawless in Outreach Magazine:
As we look forward to Christmas this year, don’t forget that Christmas isn’t easy for some folks. Here are some to pray for (and even reach out to) this year. Your gift of love might make a difference. More Here
By John Weece in CHURCHLEADERS AND SERMON CENTRAL:
I cancelled Christmas.
Or at least that’s what I was accused of.
Several years ago, Christmas fell on a Sunday and I challenged our church family to spend Christmas visiting people they wouldn’t normally visit to give gifts to people they normally wouldn’t give gifts to.
Instead of coming to church that Sunday I challenged them to be the church. Jesus came to us in person. So what better way to capture the incarnation than to go to people in person.
I didn’t feel like I was canceling Christmas. I felt like I was promoting Christmas. More Here
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:
just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.
