Regardless of when Jesus was actually born, it’s a good thing to celebrate Christmas! Christmas is a time to worship, honor and praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – the Savior of the world!
This season, Pastor Dewey Moede and I agreed that sharing a mixture of modern and traditional Christmas songs is in order! So, starting today and every day until Christmas, this post will be updated with one or two new videos or audio-videos of some great and worshipful Christmas-themed songs.
Starting things off is Chris Tomlin, a modern-day Christian music specialist at taking traditional carols and mixing them with freshened up choruses and styles. One of my favorite ones is called Midnight Clear – an obvious adaptation of It Came Upon The Midnight Clear (an 1849 poem by Edmund Sears that is sometimes titled It Came Upon “A” Midnight Clear). I hope you enjoy and maybe even sing along with Chris Tomlin’s Midnight Clear!
Here are the lyrics:
It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heaven’s all gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing
Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled
And still their heavenly music floats
Through all the weary world
And man at war with man hears not
The love song which they bring
O hush the noise and cease the strife
And hear the angels sing
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God evermore
Good news, great joy for all
Melody breaks through the silence
Christ, the Savior is born
Jesus, the love song of God
Glory to God in the highest
Glory to God evermore
Good news, great joy for all
Melody breaks through the silence
Christ, the Savior is born
Jesus, the love song of God
Jesus, the love song of God
You’re the love song
You’re the love song
You so loved the world
You’re the love song
It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
And, for those of us who really enjoy the traditional approach, here is the “one and only” Frank Sinatra performing It Came Upon The Midnight Clear!
Here are the lyrics:
It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
Peace on the earth, goodwill to men
From heaven’s all gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing
Still through the cloven skies they come
With peaceful wings unfurled
And still their heavenly music floats
O’er all the weary world
Above its sad and lowly plains
They bend on hovering wing
And ever o’er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing
O ye beneath life’s crushing load
Whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow
Look now, for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing
Oh, rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing
For lo! the days are hastening on
By prophets seen of old
When with the ever-circling years
Shall come the time foretold
When the new heaven and earth shall own
The Prince of Peace, their King
And the whole world send back the song
Which now the angels sing
God bless you all! Hopefully you’ll come back to FGGAM’s website tomorrow and join me in a couple new songs.
Praise Jesus forevermore!
