The 12 Days Of Christmas Songs (Day 4)

Christmas Songs for December 17, 2022

Regardless of when Jesus was actually born, it’s a good thing to celebrate the birth of Jesus!  Christmas is a great time to praise, worship and give honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – the Savior of the world!

Pastor Dewey Moede and I agreed that sharing a mixture of modern and traditional Christmas songs is in order for this season!  So, from December 14, 2022 through Christmas Day, I’ll post articles with videos or audio-videos of some great Christmas-themed songs.

The two songs for today aren’t specifically Christ-centered, but they evoke much love and tend to touch our hearts each Christmas – and God is love, after all!

Getting us started on Day 4 is the one and only Bing Crosby singing I’ll Be Home For Christmas!  It was written by lyricist Kim Gannon and composer Walter Kent, and was first recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby.  The song was written from the point of view of an overseas soldier during WWII writing a letter to his family – and frankly, evokes much emotion to this day.  I hope you enjoy and maybe even sing along with this original and classic recording of Bing Crosby singing I’ll Be Home For Christmas!

Here are the lyrics:

I’m dreaming tonight of a place I love
Even more than I usually do
And although I know it’s a long road back
I promise you

I’ll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

And, for those of us growing up in the United States, we’ve all been touched by Charles M. Schulz’ A Charlie Brown Christmas – and of course, the outstanding jazz music recorded by the Vince Guraldi trio.  The last living member of the trio was its drummer, Jerry Granelli.  Sadly, Mr. Granelli died on July 20, 2021, but not before he recorded a live video for a Canadian Broadcasting Company (“CBC”) show in 2015.  The video shows the world how he approached playing for the trio and especially his iconic brush work on the snare drum.  I hope you enjoy Linus and Lucy, performed live on CBC in 2015!

God bless you all!  Hopefully you’ll come back to FGGAM’s website tomorrow and join me for some new Christmas music on Day 5.
