FOX News is reporting this morning of the rise of a new and highly contagious COVID-19 Omicron sub-variant, XBB.1.5, which currently comprises approximately 41% of confirmed cases in the US – up from approximately 21% of cases during Christmas. The northeast US states have been particularly impacted with the new sub-variant, which accounts for roughly 71% of current cases.
Although continued development of COVID-19 sub-variants is expected, the XBB.1.5 sub-variant appears to be immuno-evasive, meaning it’s not as susceptible to natural immunity or vaccines.
