Long-time Pastor Don Kimbro told me about 5 years ago that the Church in America was failing to baptize people. Don also stressed that we are paying a deep price for the lack of baptisims. Yes! we see it in our communities, people running wild with Satan. The other problem that Don pointed out to me, was that not enough people who are baptized, do not then go to Sunday School and get the proper teaching to grow up to be a mature Christian. Wisdom from a great man of God!
I know of Churches who have not baptized anyone in three years! My goodness! It is a command from our LORD! Please carry out The Great Commission, it also is a command from our LORD!
‘Got Questions’ puts it this way: Christian baptism is one of two ordinances that Jesus instituted for the church. Just before His ascension, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20). These instructions specify that the church is responsible to teach Jesus’ word, make disciples, and baptize those disciples. These things are to be done everywhere (“all nations”) until “the very end of the age.” So, if for no other reason, baptism has importance because Jesus commanded it.
What are characteristics of praying churches and their members? How can we grow in our prayer life?
In 1 Timothy 2:1-8, Paul transitions from his challenge to Timothy to correct the false teachers in Ephesus to focus on the church’s prayer life. One of God’s great plans for the church is to be a place of prayer. In Mark 11:17, Christ described the temple as a house of prayer for all nations. In the same way, believers are the temple of God both individually and corporately (cf. 1 Cor 3:16, 6:19). Therefore, we should be characterized by prayer. From Bible.org
