The Rio Grande SUN is reporting that a secret deal struck between a group of state legislators and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham led to approximately $100 million being improperly taken “off the top” during capital outlay negotiations and allocated for tribal entities, House Republicans alleged Tuesday.
Representative Jim Townsend (R-Artesia) told the Rio Grande SUN the “backroom” deal was hatched between a group of mostly-Democratic negotiators from both chambers of the Roundhouse and the office of the governor.

My brothers and sisters, it’s encouraging to see that the local press, in this case, the Rio Grande SUN, is not afraid to report on such matters.
Our elected officials need oversight, and when appropriate, they must be questioned – especially in matters involving the use of citizen’s tax dollars.
We must always remember that whether it’s the president of the United States, our governor or an elected representative or senator, we do not vote for and send our money to kings or queens. Government and its officials should always be transparent, without closed-door deals resulting in unprecedented procedures for spending our tax dollars!
