As recorded in Matthew 5-7, during the Sermon on the Mount (The Beatitudes), Jesus instructed his disciples and the gathered crowd about many things, including humility and how to effectively pray. As it is known today, The Lord’s Prayer is so extremely powerful in its simplicity, though it is not simple at all in meaning! The Lord’s Prayer has been prayed for years and years in church services, but considering that music (psalms) can be prayers, using this scripture in music is powerful, as it touches the heart.
Matthew Guion Maher was born on November 10, 1974. He’s a worship leader and contemporary Christian music artist and songwriter from Newfoundland, Canada – though he now lives in the United States. He’s recorded multiple albums, with many songs that most Christians would recognize, such as Lord, I Need You, Hold Us Together, All The People Said Amen, Your Grace Is Enough, I Will Rise and Because He Lives (Amen). He’s toured with MercyMe, Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns. He’s written music for David Crowder, Hillsong, Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, Brandon Lake and Passion. He’s been nominated for many awards and is a three time GMA Dove Awards winner, including the award for Songwriter of the Year in 2015. Of particular interest to this writer is the musical influence of Matt Maher’s jazz background, as he received a scholarship and studied Jazz Piano at Arizona State University.

As one who is always ready to worship God in music, I’d like to share a Matt Maher worship song with you. There’s no better time than today to adjourn to the “secret place” to listen and worship along with this song – or share it with others!
Here is Matt Maher’s The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours):
Here are the lyrics:
Father, let Your kingdom come
Father, let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
[Repeat]
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us, forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned against us
Forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let Your kingdom come
Father, let Your kingdom come
Father, let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (let it be done)
Right here in my heart
Father, let Your kingdom come (holy, holy)
Father, let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (let it be done)
Right here in my heart
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us, forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned against us
Forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let Your kingdom come
It’s Yours
It’s Yours
All Yours
All Yours
The kingdom, the power
The glory are Yours
It’s Yours
It’s Yours
All Yours
All Yours
Forever and ever
The kingdom is Yours
[Repeat]
Father, let Your kingdom come (holy, holy)
Father, let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (let it be done)
Right here in my heart (here in my heart)
Father, let Your kingdom come (holy, holy)
Father, let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (let it be done)
Right here in my heart (here in my heart)
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Supporting Scripture(s):
Matthew 6:5-13 (NKJV)
The Model Prayer
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of be fore you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
My response to all of this: Praise Jesus forevermore!
