I have been wondering about the governors proposed 10 million dollar abortion clinic that she wants to build in Las Cruces. STATEMENT from the New Mexico House Republican Caucus on HB 505 (Capital Outlay Bill): There are a number of important projects being funded in HB 505 but unfortunately Republicans cannot support the Capital Outlay Bill in light of the Governor’s insistence on using $10 million of taxpayer dollars to fund an abortion clinic that will allow non-emergency abortions up to the moment of birth.
NEWS RELEASE: House Democrats block effort to save New Mexico healthcare
Santa Fe – Today, New Mexico House Republicans attempted to address the growing healthcare crisis that has caused medical providers from across New Mexico to close their doors due to recently enacted malpractice insurance increases. House Republicans attempted to remove HB 88, Medical Malpractice Caps, from the House Health and Human Services Committee during this final week of the 60-day session but were defeated on a near party line voted with every Republican voting in favor of bringing the bill to the House Floor for debate.
“It is no secret that doctors are leaving our state, we are in crisis, and it is being ignored by Democrats,” said State Rep. Bill Rehm (R-Albuquerque). “So many New Mexicans will be disappointed to learn their healthcare has again been threatened in favor of a political agenda.”
“If not now, then when? When will the Legislature take the time to properly address this doctor crisis?” said Ranking Republican on the House Health and Human Services Committee, Jenifer Jones (Deming). “Using the committee process as an excuse is just that, New Mexicans need healthcare and not excuses.”
“We have stood adamantly against the regressive medical malpractice changes that created this unnecessary crisis that is forcing New Mexicans to lose their doctors,” said State Rep. Jim Townsend (R-Artesia). “New Mexicans should not be forced to endure extended wait times or travel clear across the state or sometimes across state borders to get healthcare. This is a crisis, and it is disappointing that Democrats are refusing to right the wrong they created.”
